Testimonials: Pregnancy diet & exercise
Here’s what some moms like you have to say about the importance of diet and exercise during their pregnancies—and after their babies were born.
Better eating habits mean a healthier baby
"I wanted to do everything I could for my baby when I became pregnant. So I started to eat more vegetables and drink more milk. I’m sure my better eating habits had a lot to do with Brittney being born healthy. Those eating habits also carried over after she was born. Now, I have the only 2-year-old on the block who loves broccoli!" —Marian, Illinois
Keep active with water aerobics
"I am 32 and in my 24th week of pregnancy—this has been an amazing experience! It has been so wonderful. I’ve been active doing water aerobics three times a week, and my weight gain is at 11 pounds. I have minimal swelling and no constipation." —Margie Ann, Ohio
Working out makes a difference
"I loved to exercise before I had my first child, but due to severe morning sickness, I stopped. With my second child I was determined to keep my body strong. I went hiking in Yosemite National Park when I was six months along! I exercised right up until delivery. With my third child, I developed preterm labor and was restricted to bed rest for six weeks. That shot all the muscle tone I had. With my fourth baby I was once again on bed rest. To help occupy my time, I would try to think of all the nonweight-bearing exercises I could do. Because I attempted to work out, even in bed, I was able to keep some muscle tone." —RDJ, Montana
Keep a personal food diary
"I gained quite a bit of weight when I was pregnant with my second child. By the time he was 6 months, I noticed my weight was going up instead of down. I thought of going on crash diets and doing all kinds of crazy things to lose weight. I was really worried, and then I found your website and started to keep a personal food diary. When I saw how bad my eating habits really were, I knew I would have to change them. Even though I had previously seen a nutritionist who had told me all about healthy eating and given me guidelines, it took writing it down and seeing for myself to change my habits. I have now begun to lose weight and have more energy. I feel good about myself again." —Alicia, North Carolina
