How to Use a Growth Chart

Tracking baby’s growth can be helpful, but make sure not to place too much emphasis on growth charts. They’re useful to tell if your baby is largely departing from the norm, but following them too closely can cause unnecessary worry.

WHAT TO CONSIDER:
When evaluating a child’s growth, factors to consider include her nutrition, general health, and the height of her parents.

GROWTH SPURTS:
Growth spurts are common during the first year, so a measurement that shows too little or too much growth may not be significant. A baby’s growth may slow because she’s genetically destined to be small, and a large weight gain may be baby’s way of catching up.

TRACK GROWTH ONLINE:
It’s easy to keep track of your baby’s growth online—you can even print a copy to share with your baby’s doctor at her next checkup with our child growth tracker.

If you have concerns about your baby’s growth, talk with her pediatrician
