Sitter: Your 7-month-old
As she becomes more mobile, this month marks a very busy, active stage in your baby's life. By now she may be able to sit by herself, at least for a short while. This will soon be followed by rolling and rocking motions as she begins to crawl. You may notice that she will try to pull herself up to a standing position from a seated one.
Your baby’s growth
At 7 months babies usually range from 25 inches long and 14.25 pounds (10th percentile) to 28 inches long and 19.5 pounds (90th percentile).
This month your baby also may:
- stretch her body or try standing on tiptoes to reach a toy
- get upset if you take a toy away, as her memory continues to develop and she begins to understand that "no toy equals no play"
- identify what you're feeling by the tone of your voice
- eat a cracker or piece of finger food by herself
What you can do
- Play active games such as peek-a-boo and pattycake.
- Provide lots of word and rhyming games to stimulate her thinking skills and vocabulary. She'll be fascinated by musical games as well.
- Offer her toys that she can bang, poke, or clang together. They’ll likely be a big hit. Be careful not to give her any toy with very small parts that she might swallow.
