Choking hazards: Not on the menu
As your toddler continues to eat solid foods, she’ll reach for whatever others are eating. But many of those foods can be choking hazards. Be sure to avoid the foods below until your toddler is about 4 years old—and peanuts until age 7.
- Raisins and whole grapes
- Popcorn, nuts, and seeds
- Hot dogs, large chunks of meat, and poultry
- Spoonfuls of peanut butter
- Hard fruits and vegetables such as uncooked peas, raw carrots, bell peppers, apples, unripe peaches, pears, and plums
- Chewy gum and hard candy
