Sources of dairy in your toddler’s diet

Sources of Dairy

By now you may have introduced dairy foods such as yogurt and cheese into your toddler’s diet. When your child reaches 12 months of age, the American Academy of Pediatrics says you can introduce cow’s milk. Cow’s milk is an important addition to your toddler’s diet, because the calcium and vitamin D help build strong bones and teeth.

Daily servings of dairy

Dairy foods such as milk, yogurt and cheese are great nutrient-dense food choices. Serve 2 cups of dairy each day, broken into ½- to ⅔-cup servings. Giving your toddler more than the recommended amount may decrease your toddler’s appetite for the other foods that supply nutrients she needs.

Filling nutrition gaps

As an infant transitions from breastmilk and infant formula, it may be difficult to get the nutrients she needs. Over 50% of toddlers do not get enough vitamin E, iron or alpha linolenic acid (an essential omega 3 fat).

That’s why we’ve designed GRADUATES® SMART SIPS™ beverages. Made with delicious and nutritious fat-free milk, SMART SIPS beverages are packed with 15 essential vitamins and minerals (including vitamin E and iron) and omega-3 fat to support your toddler’s healthy growth and development.
