Start Healthy, Stay Healthy™ Resources

Consistent with the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations, Start Healthy, Stay Healthy™ recommends starting with breastfeeding, because breastmilk is the ideal food for babies. Once your baby is ready, Start Healthy, Stay Healthy can provide guidance on developmentally appropriate feeding choices. Start Healthy, Stay Healthy is a stage-based nutrition system of products, education, support, and services.

Five core areas form the foundation of the Start Healthy, Stay Healthy Nutrition System. Each is supported by nutrition science and sound feeding guidance.

1. Development-Based Milestone Symbols™

Because all babies develop differently, it’s important that feeding choices are based on stages of development, not chronological age. That’s why we created a range of developmentally based Milestone Symbols. These color-coded icons will be on every Nestlé and Gerber product. They help you quickly identify the products, services, and information offered by Nestlé and Gerber that are appropriate for your children at each developmental stage:

  • Sitter
  • Crawler
  • Toddler
  • Preschooler

2. Nutrition Guide

The heart of Start Healthy, Stay Healthy is the Nutrition Guide. This stage-based feeding plan is grounded in healthy eating guidelines, including the appropriate amount of food groups and nutrients young children need. Through the use of the Milestone Symbols, the Nutrition Guide also provides you with information about your baby’s hunger and fullness cues, and examples of appropriate food choices. You can find the Nutrition Guide on our website, StartHealthyStayHealthy.com, receive it through the mail, or get it from your health care professional.

3. Science-Based Products

All Nestlé Infant Nutrition products and Gerber foods for babies, toddlers and young children fit into the Start Healthy, Stay Healthy Nutrition System. 4. Resource Center

The Start Healthy, Stay Healthy Resource Center is a comprehensive knowledge base that supports you as your baby’s development and nutritional needs change from birth to preschool. 5. In-Store Childhood Nutrition Section

Start Healthy, Stay Healthy consumer education continues in-store and at-shelf. Our Childhood Nutrition Section provides easy-to-understand guidance as to which products can be introduced at each stage of baby’s life, easing parents’ shopping decisions. All of our stage-appropriate products are located in one area, and shelves are arranged so that products progress according to age and developmental stages. As a result, parents can readily choose the right mix of products for their child.
