Introducing Foods
You should do what works best for you and your baby. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics, at this stage your baby’s diet still consists mainly of breastmilk or formula, but by 4 to 6 months you can begin adding solid foods. Try giving your baby a little breastmilk or formula, followed by cereal (about a quarter of a teaspoonful), then more breastmilk or formula. This helps ease the transition and keeps him from becoming overly hungry and frustrated as he learns to spoon-feed. It will also help your baby make a connection between the satisfaction of breastfeeding and bottle-feeding with the new experience of eating cereal from a spoon.
