Question
Can I give in to my food cravings?
Answer
As many as 85% of pregnant women report craving foods or combinations they never would have eaten prior to pregnancy. Sweets; fruits and fruit juices; sour, salty, or spicy foods; and hard or chewy foods rank high on their lists.
When dealing with cravings, remember: moderation is key. Also find a nutritious alternative if the food you crave most often is not nutrient-rich. For doughnuts try substituting a nutritious bagel, an English muffin, or whole grain cereal. If all you want is sweets, try using sweet-tasting nutritious foods such as fresh ripe fruit, yogurts, smoothies, granola, and dried fruit.
