Question

Are pacifiers good for my baby?

Answer

The latest research indicates an association between pacifier use and a reduced risk of SIDS.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends offering a pacifier when placing an infant down on her back to sleep at naptime and bedtime (but not reinserting once the infant falls asleep) throughout the first year of life to help reduce the risk of SIDS. If your baby refuses the pacifier at first, don’t force it. For breastfed infants, you should delay introducing a pacifier until 1 month of age to ensure breastfeeding is firmly established.
