Engage your toddler at the table
Your toddler has a short attention span, so after a few minutes at the table, she’s done! How can you encourage her to linger a bit longer to enjoy and get used to this important family habit? Make it a fun, learning experience.
- When she’s done with her meal, bring out a toy she can play with while in her high chair—a toy without pieces—or age-appropriate building blocks.
- Engage her in your meal by calling out the foods you’re eating and their colors.
- Give her a spoon so she can practice bringing it to her mouth as she watches you eat.
- Give her a coloring book with pictures of food. It’s never too early to teach nutrition or to encourage her artistic side.
If her meal isn’t the same time as yours, try to coordinate your meal time with her snack time. You can offer her whole-grain GRADUATES® LIL’ CRUNCHIES® snacks or GRADUATES® FRUIT STRIPS™ fruit bars.
