Important sun safety tips for babies
Sun damage can happen in any season. Keep these precautions in mind during your outdoor adventure to protect your baby’s delicate skin.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics advises keeping babies younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight. (Generally, sunscreen is recommended only for babies older than 6 months. Talk with your baby’s physician if you have any concerns.)
- Place your baby in a carriage or stroller with a sunshade to block rays. You can purchase an attachable sunshade for extra coverage.
- Play with your baby under an outdoor sun tent that helps block some of the sun’s harmful rays.
- Dress your baby in lightweight long sleeves and pants, a large-brimmed hat, and/or sunglasses with at least 99% UV protection.
