Preventing diaper rash

Preventing diaper rash

Try these tips to help your baby prevent diaper rash:

  • Keep the diaper area clean and dry—change your baby’s diaper as soon as possible after it becomes soiled.
  • When changing your baby’s diaper, thoroughly clean his bottom using water or a baby wipe.
  • Pat his skin dry before putting on a clean diaper.
  • If a rash develops, use plain water to cleanse; baby wipes can dry and irritate the skin.
  • Use a thick layer of petroleum jelly or a diaper ointment on irritated skin to protect and promote healing.
