Tips for bathing your baby
Make bath time fun and tear-free with these six tips:
- Avoid bathing your baby right before or after a meal. Other than that, just about any time of the day is fine for a bath. Some parents like to calm babies with a bath before bedtime.
- Allow plenty of time. Avoid interruptions from the phone or visitors and give your baby your undivided attention. Never leave your baby unattended.
- With a portable tub you can bathe your baby in any room of the house—but with all the splashing, your kitchen and bathroom are the most suitable places.
- Make sure the room is warm (75° to 80° F) and free of drafts. Turn off fans and air conditioners until the bath is over.
- Hold your baby firmly, with a strong, steady grip. Support her neck and head with one hand so she's in a semi-reclining position, gently washing her with your free hand.
- Use shampoo and washes specially formulated for your baby's sensitive skin.
