Introducing Cereals and 2nd FOODS® Purées with DHA
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is classified as an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, and is a nutrient found in nature that's safe and beneficial to brain and eye development. However, most babies in the U.S. don't get enough DHA.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that infants get 20 mg of DHA per kilogram of body weight per day. So the recommended intake of DHA for an average 12 month old infant is 196 mg/day. When babies start to wean from breast milk or DHA formula, foods that contain DHA help ensure that DHA continues to be part of baby's diet every day.
It's important to support brain and eye development with the right nutrition. That's why Gerber has introduced infant dry cereals with DHA as well as infant fruit & cereal grain purées with DHA. When babies start to ween off breast milk or formula, foods with DHA help ensure that DHA continues to be a part of baby's diet every day.
