    The media stories sound scary and are based on a report that we believe does not fully represent the science, causing unnecessary alarm for parents and caregivers.  Gerber baby foods are absolutely safe and healthy for your baby and comply with all FDA requirements. Metals are naturally found in soil and water and can become part of fruits, vegetables, and grains as they grow. This is true whether you grow them in your own garden, use only organic, or buy them packaged in the grocery store.  Gerber takes many steps to keep levels as low as possible - starting with how our trusted farmers grow our crops.

  • How safe are Gerber baby foods?

    Gerber baby foods are absolutely safe and healthy for your baby. 100% of our foods meet all FDA requirements and our own strict standards. We developed these standards based on the very latest health and safety guidance from organizations like Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, the European Food Safety Authority and the World Health Organization. In fact, we have among the strictest standards in the world.  Nutrition experts recommend feeding a variety of nutrient dense foods like fruit, vegetables and whole grains starting around 6 months of age.  This is the best way to lower risk of heavy metals in your baby’s diet.

  • How does Gerber check and test for safety?

    Gerber foods must pass more than 100 individual quality checks before they can be sold. These checks occur at 5 different stages – from growing through cooking and jarring. On top of that, Gerber follows an annual testing plan featuring regular safety tests of finished products. This well-established approach can give parents an extra boost of confidence. If foods don’t pass our quality and safety checks, we don’t sell them.
